ILLUSTRATION:
He has been involved in publications for Titan Books (UK), Insight Editions (US), Hoopa (Iran) or Cathay (Taiwan). Insight and Titan Books have hosted his three
most relevant editorial projects to this date: Tarot del Toro, written and illustrated by Tomás Hijo in collaboration with Guillermo del Toro; Labyrinth Tarot, supervised by The Jim Henson Company and The Lord of the Rings Tarot. He has worked with the main Spanish publishers (SM, Anaya, Planeta, Minotauro and Gigamesh, among others) and has provided graphic material for more than seventy books, as El secreto del huevo azul (Premio Barco de Vapor 2012), Niños raros, the Nigromante trilogy, Retahílas de cielo y tierra or the Historia negra de los antiguos reinos trilogy.
Relating to other media, he has also joined the design team of the feature films as Nightmare Alley, by Guillermo del Toro (nominated for Art Direction Academy Award) and Concursante, by Rodrigo Cortés (storyboard). He has also worked for Jim Danton’s documentary series Les portes du temps and the musical Rodolphe (both under the artistic direction of John Howe). He has contributed to Netflix’s line of merchandising products within its Stranger Things franchise and to DOTA2 game for Valve.
LITERARY AUTHORSHIP:
He has written a dozen books (with his illustrations) on legendary themes: Gaudeamus, El libro negro de las leyendas urbanas, El libro de oro de los magos y brujas, Leyendas de Salamanca (translated into English), Tarot del Toro Guidebook and Creepypasta, among others.
GRAPHIC WORK (PRINTMAKING):
His graphic work is part of private collections around the world. He exhibits his work regularly in Spain and in galleries in the United Kingdom and the United States. His show Yökai, kaiju, mecha has been exhibited in the Salón del Manga de Barcelona and Alicante and in the Hispano-Japanese Center of the University of Salamanca. Other series, such as Nictonomicon or the one based on Tolkien’s works, have been exhibited at international conventions in various countries.
OTHERS:
He has given conferences and courses within the official programs of several university faculties, and also in a great variety of educational centers, foundations and institutions. He has regularly collaborated on Spanish radio and television broadcasts (Cuarto Milenio, Milenio 3) as a specialist in legends and floklore. As an expert in illustration, he has been a jury member for the Spanish National Illustration Award in 2017. He obtained the international Best Artwork Award from the Tolkien Society in 2015.
