Amaya Fernández Menicucci lectures on literature and cinema at the University of the Basque Country, Spain. She is a researcher in Gender and Film Studies and has been recently writing on the representation of the posthuman in both science fiction and fantasy cinema and literature from the U.S. and the U.K. As a member of Rewest, a research group that specialises in the western genre, she is particularly interested in analysing the use of American myths of the Far West in contemporary science fiction TV series.
As a former lecturer at the University of Castile-La Mancha, she also participated in research projects on the performance of gender in reality shows and the representation of the corporeal dimension of gendered identities in mainstream cinema. She has also frequently worked on the reconfiguration of gendered identity in Hollywood literature-to-film adaptations.
