Graduate in Classical Philology from the EHU/UPV (1988) and PhD in Classical Philology specialising in Greek Philology from the EHU/UPV (2009).
He was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts (2011-2013) and Director of Universities of the Department of Education, Language Policy and Education of the Basque Government from 22 January 2013 to 28 January 2017. He was also Coordinator of the Virtual Campus of the UPV in the Faculty of Arts from December 2009 to 2011, and Secretary of the Board of Directors of the European Society of Modern Greek Studies from September 2010 to September 2014.
He has participated in various research projects in Greek philology, a subject on which he has published several articles and given papers and communications at national and international conferences. He has edited manuscript texts of Byzantine Greek authors. He has translated classical Greek works into Spanish and Basque, and medieval and modern Greek texts into Spanish.
